Dabble On!

Yesterday I saw my little brother off to college.  I cried like a baby! I'm going to miss him very much.  Okay, so he is only an hour away but it was still a big move! I'm also very excited for him.  Everyone in my family is very artistic and he has been the only one to pursue that through school, so to say the least -- I'm very proud of him.  I miss him already though!

So onto my next blog.  If you didn't already notice...I dabble.  I dabble in just about everything. When I first started sewing I was really interested in making clothes.  Now, not so much.  I'm not sure why -- I guess I can't really invest the time that it takes to make a piece of clothing just yet.  The odd time -- I love to whip something up though.  I don't use patterns, like ever.  Which may sound odd.  Atleast everything is truly one of a kind.  Okay, enough babbling. I bought a poncho last winter from Forever 21.  I REALLY liked it, and then I came across this awesome fabric and I couldn't see it being made into anything besides a PONCHOO. Here it is!

Don't you agree?! Unfortunatley, this guy sold :( and not too long ago either..I guess you could say I miss it.  I should probably make myself one.  I can just picture it with some ripped jeans and your favourite pair of TOMS.   It's perfect for fall -- and you know how much I love fall...

I've gotten WAY off track.  I wanted to talk about and show you guys about the work that I do on the side.  I've had friends come to me and ask me for certain things.  I love when they do this :) A few week ago I made 4 pillows for a friends outdoor patio furniture...she picked the fabric and I made the pillows!

They turned out great. The order also included 2 of these beach bags;

The fabric was great to work with and the colours are awesome.  Good thing is that I still have lots of this fabric left!!

So, there is a few things I obviously dabble in.  I think being a dabbler is great, I get to explore my options and really test my skills. My advice; Dabble on!

Relax...

My blog today is about RELAXING.  This one might come from the fact that I just came from a massage.  My first one EVER.  It reminded me that I need to take time to just relax.  I started yoga a few months ago, and I love it.  I'm even considering becoming a certified yoga instructor.  Alright, so my favourite part of yoga MIGHT be final relaxation but the workout is so rewarding at the end.  I suggest it to anyone who is on the fence!

This is my inspiration for the next couple of pieces I made.  I started making these not too long ago, and they've been a big hit.  Thanks to my mother for the idea, of course! The great thing about these is that you can heat them up or cool them down by popping them in the microwave or in the freezer.  They are filled with FLAX SEED.  Throw the yoga eye pillows over your eyeballs and let yourself relaxxxxx. The pressure they put on your eyes is a feeling hard to achieve even from sleeping.

I love getting new fabric in the mail! Isn't it pretty? Might be my favourite one yet! I also made a couple of these guys;

Hope you all like it! Remember I am giving a makeup case (like above) to one person!  The draw will be made tomorrow evening.  You can enter by doing one of the following:

Update + Giveaway

Good Morning!

Happy Monday!  I hope this week is a little better than last week.  I was sooo happy when it was Friday last week that I could of danced in the middle of the street, haha.  So after a rough week, I was more than happy to welcome a weekend of doing NOTHING.  Well, I did do some things.  I find it hard to do absolutely nothing.  One of those included cleaning my bedroom, and man did I clean it.  I've determined I might be headed for hoarder status. I'm just kidding, but I do have a lot of clothing.  With being so busy, things tend to get neglected or left until a later date.  Sunday, my boyfriend made a quick trip to the little market down the road and came back with these....

Beautiful!! He knows me too well.

And now for the update and giveaway! Business has been going great.  With any home-made business, I think that there are slow weeks and fast weeks.  I appreciate the slow weeks because it gives me a chance to catch up on inventory.  I obviously like the fast weeks too though!  My Etsy shop is well on its way to 6,500 views.  I have you guys to thank for that!  My blog is close to 900 views now!  I would love to show you how much all this means to me by offering a giveaway! A Blast From The Past

This weekend was kind of low-key.  I managed to get quite a bit of sewing done, so I can't complain! I wanted to go out and watch the meteor shower Saturday night, but it was just too cloudy :( Boo.  I have a few days to catch it though!

So Saturday during the day, I attended a Bridal Shower.  Actually, it was the only one I have ever been too! The coolest part -- was that it was themed "Old Hollywood Glamour".  I attempted the whole look, but it didn't work out so well.  I got the sideswept hair, and the lipstick though.  That's about all I could attempt!  The party added to the inspiration I had for a vintage collection of my own.  So, that's what I've been working on ALL weekend.  I also loved the oppourtunity to make something one of a kind for the bride...

A perfect companion on her honeymoon!! And she loved it...phew!

It was after the Bridal Shower that I got to work on my vintage collection and here it is!!!

I hope everyone likes it! For my next piece, I came across the fabric at last years One of A Kind Show.  I can't remember the name of the vendor, but I bought this cool handprinted fabric.  I thought it was just the cutest fabric and I had to have it.  Amost a year later and I STILL didn't know what to make with it...although I had attempted different things with it by this point.  I decided to make this guy!

And I just love him!

Thanks for reading guys, and I hope you like my new collection! I'm quite excited about it and I'd love to know that you think! Thanks again for all your continued support.

Story of My Life

So, I talk about sewing a lot.  I do have a life besides sewing, believe it or not! So, in this blog, I'm going to share a few photos with everyone! Why not? I want people to connect with the person behind the sewing machine! So here goes:

HI! I'm Hayley! I get Hayl a lot.  Pretty sure I was named after an actress my mom liked when she was growing up.  I also get Beanie...had that one since I was a wee one.  Courtesy of my Mother :) I am 23 with a plan slowing falling into place as to what the heck I'm going to do for the rest of my life.  The best things in life are worth waiting for.

I landed a great job almost a year ago. While I'm not stuck on being inside and at a desk all week, I get to wear pretty outfits.

I like bangs and my favourite sweater.

"keep breathing, keep loving"

I have 6 tattoos.  I started off saying I'd never get any.
This is my newest, and biggest.

"love what you've got and always remember what you had"

True story.

This happened.

This is how I celebrate getting the keys to a house with the 3 coolest people I know.

Then this happened.

Isn't she a beauty? Of course I think so.

I sneak books at work.  Especially when it is 50 Shades of Grey.

 A Girl's Best Friend.

That moment when a friend sends you a picture of YOUR THINGS in a store.

 Oh, and this guy.

That's about all I've got to share right now.  It is wayyyy past my bedtime.  Lame.  I hate this thing called WORK.

XOXO

Etsy, Etsy, Etsy!

I mentioned in my first blog, how inspired I was by Etsy.  I can't get enough of this site.  It's a whole other world!  I love it so much that I have begun to order anything and everything I possibly can. Yep.  I order my fabric, my buttons and my zippers from Etsy alone.  I spent HOURS and DAYS looking for zippers, only to find them on Etsy for a STEAL.  I spend hours a day looking at things that people can create with their own two hands.  I have YET to be disapointed from a shipment I've received from a seller on Etsy.  Even the packaging is out of this world.  Something so simple can be so impressive!
Soft Leather Multicolour Ropes Men or Women Leather Bracelet Wristband Cuff Bracelet 278S
Look at this bracelet! How cool is this? I came across this beauty and I have officially fallen in love with it.  So simple, yet such a statement.  And only for the low price of $8.50.  You can't go wrong! Check it out for yourself: http://www.etsy.com/listing/93338577/soft-leather-multicolour-ropes-men-or

Individual Final Payments for Andrea Dobbin's Custom Bridesmaids Dresses

Do I really need to say anything when it comes to these dresses?  I happened to stumble on these one day.  How beautiful are they? It's amazing what she can create with scrap fabric. What a statement they would make on your bridesmaids!   She's done them in all different colours and designs, clicked my "favourite" button in no time! Check them out here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105274761/individual-final-payments-for-andrea?ref=af_new_item

Fold Over Vegan Clutch in Honey Yellow

I favourited this one awhile back.  I just loved the simplicity! Plus, it's vegan! Who would of thought... check it out here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/99468173/fold-over-vegan-clutch-in-honey-yellow

Thanks everyone for an awesome July.  I can't believe it's already August.  I'm headed up to Bancroft for the weekend to ring in Civic Long Weekend.  I didn't have too much time to hit the sewing machine this week, so I feel a little deprived but I will be hitting it in full force come Monday! Enjoy your long weekends!
